Raiders at Gate, 27-7
The fans who came
to the Ridge last night saw two very different football games.
They saw a first half where Neshaminy really struggled to get
going offensively, and then an explosive second half when the
offense really began to click and showed us all that they can
put points up on the board in a hurry.
The Redskins
defense played strong in the opening period and kept the Raiders
from picking up any meaningful yardage, as well as keeping them
off the scoreboard. Following a touchdown late in the second
period, Ryan appeared poised for a second quick strike when a
Neshaminy fumble gave them the ball inside our own 6 yard line.
The Redskin defense came up with a huge stop, snubbing Ryan 2
times inside the 1-yard line. That was enough to allow the half
to expire before Ryan could get off another play.
The Redskins came
out in the second half with a resolve that no one could deny.
Neshaminy scored touchdowns on 4 of their first 5 drives of the
second half. Andrew Flogel started it off with a 65 yard jaunt
to the end zone to make it 6-7. On their next possession
Neshaminy reeled off runs of 13, 26 & 31 yards to take them to the
Raiders 6 yard line. On the very next play Jason Ulmer ran the
ball in for a 12-7 lead and Neshaminy would never look back. A
few minutes later, Jason Ulmer scored his second TD of the
evening on a 38 yard screen pass with 43 seconds left in the third
period. The 20-7 lead gave Neshaminy the breathing room they needed to take
command of the game. Ian Capanna closed out the scoring with a
70 yard TD run midway through the fourth period. That TD run
came as the result of a beautiful Matt Harker block, taking out
the only defender between Ian and the goal line.
Neshaminy again
got big performances from Roland Wensae who stopped Ryan runners
all night and Mike Ellershaw who had another strong game at the
tailback position.

Player of
the Week:
Jason Ulmer

This is
Jason's first year as a starter on Varsity and he had a
great game
on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Jason scored 2
touchdowns, a
rushing touchdown forcing his way through Archbishop
Ryan's defense and a
38 yard touchdown reception off a screen pass.
Defensively, he led a very
aggressive Redskins defense with 6 tackles, 2 tackles
for a loss and 1
fumble recovery. Great game Jason!
