Tribe Bags Bears, 48-6
Redskins Over Germantown
For those who
enjoy watching football games that flow, Friday night's
contest against the Bears of Germantown was a grizzly
display of unnecessary penalties. In the first period alone,
we saw no less than 10 yellow flags. However, neither the
flags nor the Bears could stop the Redskins from doing what
they enjoy most - scoring points. Neshaminy displayed an
offense that was balanced, spread out, and unstoppable on
Friday night.
The depth of
Neshaminy's scoring machine was made evident by the number
of players involved in the scoring. Of the 7 Redskin touchdowns scored, 4 came from the
offense and 3 from the defense. Further analysis reveals
that Neshaminy Juniors Jason Ulmer and Dan Lyons
accounted for 3 of the 7 touchdowns while Seniors Andrew
Flogel, Mike Ellershaw, Austin Dahn and Ryan Evans combined for the
other 4 trips
to the end zone. In the last two weeks alone, Jason (Who is
that kid?) Ulmer has reached the end zone 5 times. With Kitt
Anderson getting closer to seeing game action, and the ever
dangerous Andrew Flogel at the helm, opponents won't know
which Redskin to key on. Also, Coach Schmidt spread
out the play calling very nicely, keeping the Bears defense
guessing which direction the ball might go.
But it was not
just the offense who came to play on Friday night. The
defense also had a huge role in the win over Germantown. The 'Skins Dee-Boys are again the stingy group we've grown
accustomed to seeing out on the field. They gave up very little ground
tonight, as they dug in and kept the Bears offense pinned down (giving up only 18 yards of total offense in the 2nd half).
The secondary shadowed receivers while the line stifled Germantown's running game.
Although Germantown did score 6 points, the 'Skins
defense more than made up for it as they scored 21 points
with 2 interceptions returned for TDs as well as a fumble recovery
that was picked up and taken in for a score. That last TD was set
up by a monster hit on Germantown's quarterback by 'Skins Junior
Eric Brown. Brown leveled the Bears' play caller with a hit that knocked the
ball loose, followed by Jason Ulmer's alert recovery and run all the way to the end zone for a touchdown
(it was only a 2 yard run, but he still ran it all the way in).
And with the game
coming to a close, Sophomore Quilan Arnold had a nifty run
down the left side and took the ball to the 1 yard line.
Coach Schmidt, however, did the right thing and "took a
knee" to run out the clock and game.
Next week's game
against Abington is at home on Thursday night, not
Friday. See you then at the Ridge.

Player of the
Week

Eric (hard
hitting) Brown
Eric had 2 sacks and
had an all-around outstanding game at Defensive End versus
Germantown High. His pressure on the Quarterback was a big
factor in the Defense's three touchdowns last Friday night. Eric
is a first year starter on Defense and is also a contributor on
the Offensive Line.
