Ghosts Scarier Than Thought!
‘Skins Script “Great Moment”; Win 27-21
Whoa! Take a
deep breath and get yourself some air.
It wasn’t
supposed to turn out quite like this. Not at all. In fact,
in a game that the prognosticators had decided Neshaminy
would win going away – maybe even bagged up for the trip
home by halftime – well, let’s just say that ain’t the way
it turned out. Actually, it appeared as if the same press
clippings had been posted in both locker rooms before the
contest and the result was Abington stepping up to the plate
in a big way while the ‘Skins seemed determined to make it
as hard on themselves as they could.
A couple of
thoughts sum this one up: First, nail biter, cliffhanger and
heart stopper; and, second, thank goodness for the Tribe’s
Red-Zone defense.
Imagine a
predicted runaway game tied 21 all with fewer than 3 minutes
to go. That’s frustrating. Then imagine two of your team’s
top up backs grabbing some pine on the sidelines (Kitt
Anderson was close but not quite there just yet while Mike
Ellershaw twisted an ankle and sat out most of the second
half). That’s really frustrating!
But just in
the nick of time Jason “Now we know who that kid is!” Ulmer
– who was sharp from the opening gun – took matters into his
own hands. Handling the pigskin on the ‘Skins first
offensive play after the Ghosts had knotted the game 21-21,
Ulmer broke it open to the right and outpaced everyone on a
very “unfrustrating” 67 yard jaunt to the promised land.
With the PAT no-good, the defense protected the slim 27-21
lead as if their lives depended on it, holding off
Abington’s last chance drive as the gun sounded with
Neshaminy on top.
And on a
positive note, all-everything Andrew Flogel continues to do
his part as he not only lugged one across for six himself
but he also pitched two aerials for scores. And on the
receiving end of both touchdown passes was Ryan Evans who
has now snagged 3 for 6 in the last 2 games. Nice.
So although
we have to be honest that this game was a lot closer that we
wanted to see, the creek kids did post another one in the
win column. And since we think knowing how to win close ones
is important too, we’ll leave it at that.
See you next
week.
