On a damp
and wet evening in Levittown, the Moleskinners traveled to
Harry S. Truman high school to take on the Tigers in their
second Suburban One League in-conference game. And although
starting off a little shaky on their first couple of series
on the rain-dampened surface, once the Langhorne gang found
their footing, the game became pretty much all about the
white shirted visitors. So without further ado, let’s get to
the recap.
As the home team won the toss, they elected to receive and
after the Seth Jeffries kick, it was Harry S. Truman
starting on their own 20. Putting up a quick three and out,
the Tigers were forced to punt. After the exchange, the
‘Skins started on their own side of the mid-field stripe in
decent field position. In a bit of a pattern, though, the
Indians fumbled the ball on their first play from scrimmage
and the Tigers recovered on the 28. With the Redskins
defense then putting up an impenetrable wall, the Tigers
were stopped cold on 4 straight attempts. But with the
Warrior’s offense going nowhere, it was a Mike Wynne punt
that resulted in the Tigers starting on their own 32. What
followed was another three and out and punt by Truman with
the ‘Skins next setting up shop on their own 40. It was then
that the dam broke open as Bryan Dean popped for 26-yards
followed by Jay Colbert who took it 34-yards to the end zone
for the score. With the PAT blocked, it was 6-0 for
Neshaminy.
Seth Jeffries then boomed it away and unable to move the
ball again, Truman was soon punting away following another
failed attempt at a first down. After the punt, the Blue and
Red began on their side of the field but they didn’t stay
there long as a nice run by Dean was followed by a beautiful
42-yard pass from Brian Titus to Rick Brebner for the score
and 6 more points. Going for two, it was Titus to Brebner
again that made it 14-0 for the Creek Kids. And in a blink
of any eye, it was the ‘Skins with the ball again after
Truman failed to gain a first after receiving the kickoff.
After safely fielding the punt, it took Neshaminy just two
plays to find the end zone with Quilan Arnold’s 50-yard
jaunt for the score highlighting that mercurial sprint to
the promised land. With the PAT by Keelan Adams good the
scoreboard rolled to 21-0 for the Redskins.
Then in a most mechanical fashion, Truman once again
couldn’t gain a first down after receiving the Neshaminy
kickoff, and they were forced to punt away which was then followed by Neshaminy’s march back down
the field with that drive punctuated by Dean’s short sprint
for the touchdown. The extra point by Adams didn’t miss and
it went to 28-0 in Langhorne’s favor. With play slowing down
a bit thereafter, the clock wound down on the first half
without any further score.
With the Redskins receiving to start the second-half, they
started at their own 28 after Dean handled the ball. What
followed was a mix of nice runs and passes that took the
ball down to the Truman 10-yard line with a first and goal to go. Wasting
no time at all, it was Colbert punching it in for his second
touchdown of the night. Jeffries handled the point after as
the score widened to 35-0 for the Moleskinners. Then coming
to life, the Tigers returned the kickoff to mid-field
followed by a couple of nice plays that took it to the
Tribe’s 36. Going to 4th and 3 at the 29, Truman went for it
and just made it for a first down at the 26. Following that
with another first down at the 15, a very nice defensive
play by Justin Donnarumma stopped the Truman drive cold as
he pilfered a Tiger pass at the ten. Getting the momentum
back in a hurry, two quick runs by Neshaminy saw the ball
moved out to the 35-yard line with room to
breathe as the third period expired.
After the teams changed sides, it took just a few plays for
Dean to lug the pigskin down to the Truman 15 on a couple of
nice runs. From there on out, Coach Schmidt rotated in some
new players with Ricky Williams gaining 9-yards to the 6 and
then one more to the 5 for a ‘Skins first and goal. And
although he scored on the next play, a holding call brought
it back. Then featuring the exploits of the understudies,
including backup quarterback Charlie Marterella, Jared Dickson and a few others,
it went to 4th and goal from the 20 before Marterella found
Williams through the air for another Ridgemen score. The PAT
was on-target and the score then went to 42-0.
With the “Mercy Rule” keeping the clock running, it didn’t
take long at all for the final gun to sound. And with
another strong defensive effort, the ‘Skins recorded their
third straight shut out and have not been scored on in 14
quarters. Plus, from an offensive viewpoint, Langhorne performed
as expected and we’re happy to report: Game to ‘Skins!
Now standing at 4-1 at the mid-point of the regular season,
the ‘Skins are also 2-0 in SOL play as they host the William
Tennent Panthers next week.
See you at the game.
