`Skins win
over game Tiger squad
On the road
in Levittown, the Redskins were looking to right the ship
after last week’s nick at the hands of CR South. Standing in
their way, though, was an always tough Harry S. Truman
Tigers group. In fact, a squad that should never be taken
lightly, the Tigers have shown plenty of moxy and fight all
year as they carved out a 2-5 record despite some very big
obstacles. And having now played Truman year-in and year-out
since the merger of Woodrow Wilson and Delhaas in the early
‘80s, Neshaminy knows that the Tigers are never lacking for
both talent and determination. With that said, let’s get to
it.
Winning the toss, the Tribe received the opening kick and
after starting on their 35 it took but two plays for Sean
Ulmer to travel the 65 yards on a pair of carries. With Sean
Sheridan’s PAT on the money, it was 7-0 for the Blue & Red
in just under a minute. But showing they always bring their
“A” game, it was the Tigers tying it up not too much longer
after that as their option attack proved very effective.
With the fast first-quarter then ending, it was all knotted
up at seven a piece.
The ‘Skins did first damage in the second-quarter as a nice
Neshaminy drive ended with Ulmer punching it in on a short
one to make it 14-7 following Sheridan’s extra point. Then
after trading some possessions, it was Anthony Woodroffe
finishing a drive to put the ‘Skins up 21-7. Not mailing it
in, though, the Tigers didn’t stop punching and late in the
second a nice pass by the Truman quarterback found its mark
as they pulled within eight. Going for two after being
pushed back on a penalty, the hosts came up short and as the
teams broke for the half it was Neshaminy on top, 21-13.
Back on the field after the break the Tigers took the kick
and after a few moves down the field were forced to punt.
Following the exchange, it was the Schmidtmen then starting
it off on their end of the field. And although looking a bit
sloppy at first, Dwight Williams made a nice grab of a
Charlie Marterella pass, followed up by a catch by Justin Andrews
that saw the ball moved down in close to the goal line. From
there it was Woodroffe taking it across. With the Sheridan
PAT true, the score then rolled to 28-13.
Following the Langhorne kickoff, and some offensive handling
by the Tigers that failed to earn much yardage, it was the
‘Skins with the ball once again. Not wasting much time, the
Tribe was able to motor right down the field as Ulmer took
another carry into the end zone for the score. With Sheridan
seemingly perfect, the PAT was good and the score went to
35-13 as the third-quarter ended.
Rolling into the final period, some new players were seen on
the field as the two clubs continued to look for
opportunities and scores. And the first to find both of them
was the Tigers as some nifty footwork by their backs saw
them punch one in to make it 35-19. But the try for two
missed and that’s how it stood as they gave it back to
Neshaminy in the form of an onsides kick that the ‘Skins
fell on at mid-field. From there it was just a matter of
time before the gun sounded the end of the fourth as the
‘Skins final possession saw them take a knee down close.
And so we’re happy to report: Game to ‘Skins!
Now standing at 7-1, the Redskins are back home next week as
they entertain the always tough Panthers of William Tennent.
Plus with playoff placement front and center for teams all
over the Delaware Valley and District One at this time of
the year, it’s a sure bet that the Warminster club will
bring its best to Heartbreak Ridge. And knowing Coach
Schmidt and the boys will be working hard all week to get
ready, we’re sure “Harry’s House” will be packed for this
one.
See you at the game.
