Neshaminy 40 - William Tennent 14
Tribe plays steady at home
Home in Langhorne to entertain William Tennent, the Redskins
continued with 2010 SOL play as the season moved into its
late stages. And with the playoffs beginning to loom large,
the 7-1 Tribe had no room for a let down. Plus with the
Panthers playing tough ball all year long, this was not the
week to be thinking of anything but the task at hand. So
with that bit of “warm-up” out of the way for you fans,
let’s get right to it.
Winning the
toss, the ‘Skins took the kick and after the short boot was
fallen on by Tadas Karusevicius, Neshaminy started up at
their own 29. From there the Tribe followed the course they
had set all season long as they marched the 71 yards to pay
dirt using the run and pass to their advantage. And looking
smart at the end, it was Corey Majors taking it in the last
yard after Justin Andrews, Anthony Woodroffe, Shane Quinn
and a few others paved the way. With The Sean Sheridan boot
good, the score rolled to 7-0 Neshaminy. Bottling up the
visitors after the kickoff exchange, it was soon Neshaminy
with the ball again at their own 21 following the Panther
punt. And looking smooth, the Blue & Red offense shot right
down the field on some sweet Sean Ulmer footwork while
Andrews snagged a few Charlie Marterella passes for big
gains. Capping it off was Marterella’s aerial to Quinn for
the TD. With Sheridan then hitting the PAT, it went to 14-0
‘Skins.
Kicking it
away the Neshaminy defense stopped Tennent’s offense once
again and another punt saw the Schmidtmen in control at
their 25. Then following a couple of Woodroffe rushes, they
were soon at the Panther 20 as the second-quarter rolled
around. From that point Woodroffe took it in close with Kyle
George earning the last few yards and the score. The
Sheridan PAT went for naught, though, as the snap was
bobbled and the score stayed at 20-0. But not for long as
the Panthers showed their moxy by taking the following
kickoff the distance. With the point after good, it had
tightened up to 20-7.
With
Tennent trying a short onsides kick, the ‘Skins started it
up at their 45 after falling on the bounding ball. Then
another lightning drive followed built largely on the
strength of two incredible catches by Dwight Williams,
including
one for a touchdown, which saw it go to 27-7 as
the snap and Sheridan’s PAT were both just perfect.
Following the kickoff and another stifled Panther offensive
effort, Neshaminy was back in business at their 30 after the
punt. And with seemingly everyone having a chance at
handling the ball on another successful Neshaminy drive, it
was little brother Bobby making the catch of big brother
Charlie’s throw to make it 34-7 after the Sheridan try. Then
following the ‘Skins kickoff, and some banging around by
both clubs all to no avail, the players broke for the half.
Back on the
grass after the rest, it was Neshaminy kicking to the
visitors. Starting it up around their 30, it was the
Panthers setting up in a spread offense. But still not
getting any significant yardage, they were soon forced to
punt and it was Neshaminy with the ball on their 28. But
just as it had been all night, the Creek Kids were not
letting any moss grow under their feet as they jetted down
the field yet again. This time it was Woodroffe taking it in
the last few yards for the touchdown; however, another
slippery snap caused the PAT to fail and the score stood at
40-7. Kicking it off once again, it was the Panthers on
their 35 to start their next offensive series while
Neshaminy’s defense showed a load of clean uniforms and
shiny faces.
Finally
showing some positive results, this drive showed that
Tennent wasn’t throwing in the towel as they made some nice
moves down the field. But running out of gas, the ball went
back to Neshaminy on downs. With the ‘Skins not moving the
ball either, the home team then punted for the first time in
the game. And following the exchange, Tennent came alive as
a nice run by a Panther back had the pigskin at the
Neshaminy five. Going to fourth and goal, the Warminster QB
snuck it across for the score. With the PAT true, it went to
40-14 with under ten minutes in the game.
With
Tennent then kicking it off to Neshaminy, the ‘Skins set up
on their own 35 as the understudies came in to show their
stuff. And looking very nice, the youngsters ate up both the
clock and yardage as Joe Bianchino took over as the
quarterback with Cole Creighton, Devon Brown and Chino Duru
in the backfield. Making a good show, the group got it down
to the five before turning it over on downs. From there it
was the Panthers back on offense but with the clock burning
out shortly thereafter that’s the way it ended.
And as we
love to say: Game to ‘Skins!
Now at 8-1,
the Redskins have but one game left to play in the regular
season. And we’re sure that we don’t have to remind you of
this but just in case you aren’t aware, next week sees the
Falcons of Pennsbury coming to town. Year-in and year-out it
doesn’t get much better than when our neighbors to the East
make the short trip to Langhorne. Plus knowing that both
teams will be leaving it all out on the field, and since it
is the last game of the regular season and Senior Night to
boot, we couldn’t be more sure that “Harry’s House” will be
filled to the brim and rockin’ to its core – so get on out
to the Ridge plenty early as seats will be at a premium.
See you at
the game.
