Neshaminy 35 - C.B. East 12
DOYLESTOWN: Heading up
to Doylestown and War Memorial Field to take on Continental
Conference member, the Central Bucks East Patriots, the
‘Skins looked to close out their last non-league game of
2011. And keeping in mind the history of the venue and the
program, Neshaminy had no choice but to take this one very
seriously if they hoped to improve to 3-0 on the young
season. So with the weather cooperating magnificently, and a
nice contingent of fans making the trek North for the game,
let’s get to it.
With the Schmidtmen receiving the ball to start the game, it
seemed as if hardly a second had ticked off the clock before
Sean Ulmer was off to the races on a brilliant 49-yard
touchdown scamper. And with the PAT true, it was then 7-0
for the Langhorne gang. But quickly showing they weren’t
going to be cowed at all, the Pats put three on the board in
a hurry as they nailed a field goal halfway through the
first-quarter. But keeping up the pace, it was Ulmer again
as he finished off another quick Redskin drive on a two-yard
burst that made it 14-3 as the first period ended.
With the second-quarter underway it was then C.B. East
saying “right back at ya’” as they went up top for a 38-yard
aerial score. The extra point missed, though, and it stood
at 14-9 with plenty of time still on the first-half clock.
Turning the tables a bit, it wasn’t long before Ulmer found
the promised land yet again except this time it was from a
defensive position as he scooped up a blocked Patriot punt
and lugged it in from in close to make it 21-9 following the
PAT. And from there, although it was an exciting last few
minutes of play that kept the fans entertained, no more
points were scored before the teams broke for the half.
Back on the turf for the final 24 minutes, this time it was
the home team taking the kick. But soon enough the Red &
Blue fans were up and screaming and cheering Bobby
Marterella as he grabbed a loose ball and high-tailed it 40
yards to the end zone. With the kick good, it went to 28-9
for the Creek Kids with a whole lotta time still showing on
the scoreboard clock. Next taking a small but needed
breather, the two teams finally slowed down as the remainder
of the third rolled by without a score. That is, unless you
count the 50-yard Redskin TD that was called back on a
holding call – ouch!
Finally reaching the last quarter of play, with the score
still at 28-9, it was the Pats that broke the monotony with
a very pretty field goal to make it 28-12. But with Mr.
Ulmer really showing his stuff tonight, in no time it was ol’
number four stepping across the double-striper yet again to
spin the clock to 35-12 with six minutes remaining in the
game. And although the hosts pressed for a score down the
stretch, it was Neshaminy’s Tyler Green picking one off in
the end zone to put the skids on a last attempt by the Pats.
Plus with the gun sounding the end of the contest shortly
thereafter we have no choice but to write what we love to
say more than just about anything: Game to ‘Skins!
Spinning to 3-0, the Tribe now rolls into league play as
they travel to Abington next Friday. And do I even need to
set the stage? Not in the least as the Galloping Ghosts
always put their “A” game on the field when the Redskins
come a-calling. So get on out to Memorial Field and their
beautiful facilities early as this should be a humdinger.
See you at the game.
