Neshaminy 42 - Bensalem 33

`Skins in barnburner over Owls

BENSALEM: On the road to take on Bensalem, the Skins continue their latest campaign in grand style. With the Owls on the schedule since 1930, and as this game is the 77th in the series, its always a great evening when these two clubs meet. And as the Blue & Red are in the thick of it, plus with the Fightin Owls showing signs of brilliance all season long, lets just get right to it.

With the Owls winning the toss they received the opening kickoff. Looking sharp they gained a few first downs before stalling. Punting it away, the Redskins first possession came up empty and it was back to Bensalem following their punt. Starting up at the 8-yard line the Owls moved it out well from there before being forced to punt once again. Catching a break, the ball bounced off a Redskin with an Owl pouncing on the loose ball. With a first on the Neshaminy 20 the Owls took it in from there and after the PAT it went to 7-0 for the hosts.

Rolling into the second-quarter, and after the kickoff to the Creek Kids, the Langhorne offense still seemed cold with another punt ending that possession. Bensalem then mirrored the Skins and the ball was soon back in the hands of the Redskin offense. This time the boys looked as if the slow start was behind them as Denny Lord got the O moving with Nate Hall chiming in as well. In fact, it was Hall hauling it in from the 11 for the TD with Nick Tucci nailing the PAT to make it 7-7 halfway through the second-quarter.

After the kick the Owls made some yards before punting it back to Neshaminy where they took over on their 15. Pushing it out to the 37 it was at that spot that Justin Andrews nailed a streaking Cole Creighton for six more points. The Tucci kicked missed and the score went to 13-7 for Neshaminy. Kicking it back to Bensalem the Owls found no footing and were soon punting it away. With Creighton obviously enjoying his name in lights, he made the catch at the 35 and raced 65 yards for the score. Lord took the two-point try across to make it 21-7 Neshaminy with 1:35 left in the first-half.

Another kickoff, another punt and the Skins took over at mid-field with 21 ticks on the clock. Thats where it ended, though, as the clock soon ran down and the squads hit the locker rooms for the break.

Back on the field, it was Denny Lord receiving the ball and taking off on a return that didnt end till he was tripped up at the Owls 7-yard line. From there it was Lord again as he did honors while after the PAT by Tucci the scoreboard spun to 28-7 for Langhorne. Booting it back to Bensalem, a nice return saw the Owls start up at mid-field. Then a nice pass and two pass interference calls against Neshaminy got the Owls in close and then in for the score. The kick was good and it rolled to 28-14 with three minutes in the third-period.

After the kickoff the Skins couldnt get much going and were forced to punt it back to the Owls who took over at their 36. Not content to grind it out, Bensalem went up top and hit a long one for a TD. The PAT was true and suddenly this one was getting tight as the score stood at 28-21 with Neshaminy enjoying a slim seven-point lead.

Following the kick exchange the Redskins drove into Bensalem territory before punting it to the Owls who took over at their 12 with the fourth-quarter underway. Grabbing a first, Bensalem had it out to the 24 with nine-minutes on the clock. A nice pass saw them move it to mid-field as the clock continued to run. Going up top again saw the ball moved to Neshaminys five-yard stripe. Taking it in from there, it was only the block of the extra point that kept the Skins in front, 28-27.

After the kickoff it was Neshaminy back on O and looking to move it out as the clock showed six-minutes remaining. With the ball on the 45 after the return, Hall just couldnt stand the suspense as he took the handoff and bolted 55 yards for the score. As Tucci was on the button, Neshaminy went up 35-27. But with the Owls refusing to play dead they returned the following kickoff to Neshaminys 45. From there the Bensalem QB hoofed it to the one with the next play seeing an Owls score to make it 35-33. Going for 2 the Owls drew a delay of game and the ball was moved back on the penalty. Throwing a pass, it was batted down by a Skins DB and the score still favored the Blue & Red.

Receiving the kickoff it was Neshaminy back on offense with four minutes on the clock. Moving it out the 45 on a couple of plays, it was Hall doing it again as he ripped another 55-yarder off to make it 41-33. Tucci was then on the money with the PAT and with two minutes left it was Neshaminy up, 42-33. Following the kickoff and return to their 25 the Owls set up with the clock most definitely a factor. But with Neshaminys defense finally saying no more, the ball went back to Langhorne after the Owls failed to gain a first. And from there it was Neshaminy keeping the control and burning out the remaining time. So here it comes:

Game to Skins!

Wow, wow, wow! Great game by the Owls and good work by the Skins as they go to 6-2 on the year. Now closing in on the end of the regular season, were happy to report theyre at home for the final two contests so all of us fans get to cozy up in our blankets at Heartbreak Ridge over the final weeks. Next Friday sees Abington in town and with the Ghosts a tough-out year-in and year-out, the action on the field will be a little bit more lively than the hot chocolate crowd in the stands. So get there early as this will be a good one.

See you at the game.
